Who’s playing and what do you think? I’m excited about the idea of this game, since I feel I haven’t had a decent rally game since, well, the gran turismo 4 rally stages. I have yet to purchase, since I have no one in physical reach to talk with about racing games anymore.

Also, anyone playing trackmania turbo? I’m having a blast with that.

DiRT Rally will demoralize you and crush your spirit. You will be frustrated. You will despise it. You will wonder why they made it and why you bought it. But then you will learn. You will accept that getting fourth place in a rally means you “did pretty fucking good that time.” You will figure out what the car likes and what it doesn’t. You will improve. You will be addicted.

Seriously though, this is basically a sim and it’s unforgiving but absolutely fantastic. I know many real rally drivers who own it and swear by it, calling it the closest you can get without being able to actually feel the g-forces. Buy it, just go in knowing you’ll crash. A lot.

Very challenging. I made the mistake of buying the Stratos, had to crank the stability control all they way up. I still can’t keep that thing from spinning, stupid snow sections. The game has a steep learning curve and I can only handle about 20 minutes at a time because I want to throw my controller through the TV when I mess up the last section of a stage. But regardless, I’m happy to have a realistic rally game, even if I’m not very good at it.

This sounds like reasonable advice. Thanks. But I wonder: do you, or did you play Project Cars? The whole demoralize and crush spirit bit matches up with that, but I could never get the hang of it, nor did I want to. I played with all the settings for controller configuration, even got a steering wheel and messed around with the settings for that, but could never get into the game.

So I guess I’m asking if you like both games for the same reason, or if you also despise Project Cars but still like DiRT Rally.

What I’ve played of PCARS is way more forgiving than Dirt.

Those first few rallies in the little FWD cars was like “Okay, this is challenging, but I can do this!”

The later stages were like “MY BRAIN IS STILL FIVE TURNS BEHIND THE CAR I DON’T KNOW WHAT I’M DOING.”

Project Cars was/is broken on consoles and does not work well with a controller. Dirt Rally was made by a competent dev who gives a shit about its customers so unsurprisingly it isn’t broken and works well with a controller. It’s just really fucking hard.

Playing it gave me flash backs of the Forza Horizon Rally DLC and I’m not sure if I’m ready for that kind of brutality in my life again. Hence why I haven’t got my own copy yet. Well that and I’m kinda hooked on Trackmania Turbo.

I have an absurd number of hours playing it. It’s really fun, but it’s 100% a sim. If you don’t use rally driving techniques, you will crash.
